As the year draws to a close, we take a look at some of the perimeter security installations that we have been involved in 2018. Of particular interest, and very satisfying for us, is the sheer diversity of the perimeter security clients we have serviced. Many of these are mainstream in terms of what you would expect from the high end of perimeter security, such as military bases, police compounds, distribution warehousing and new build residential compounds. Mixed in with these are some big and powerful ones – elephants and tigers!
Elephant Perimeter Security
In the Spring of 2018 a very special, new project was unveiled at Blackpool Zoo – Project Elephant Base Camp. The new enclosure and the happy elephants who now call it home have attracted much attention and praise from both the media and the public. What’s more, the elephants are not shy in showing their joy. Here they are in two delightful video clips showing how they can enjoy the British weather, come rain or shine – a mud bath and a swim in the pool!
Just look away from the elephants into the background and you will see our Electro-Fence™ on the perimeter. This affords the animals the protection and confidence they need in order to relax and feel safe and secure. You can read more about the electric fence installation and see some great photographs of the superb enclosure on our elephant perimeter security special feature. We are most grateful to Blackpool Zoo for providing those photographs. It is an installation we will always treasure being involved with!
Safari Park Security For Amur Tigers
As a direct result of our perimeter security installation at Blackpool Zoo, we were invited to help with security technology required for the new Amur Tiger Trail at Knowsley Safari Park.
Just like the elephants at Blackpool Zoo, the tigers were being moved to a new and specially constructed home. So they required a high security solution and for the same dual purpose. That is, to prevent the animals from breaching the perimeter of their enclosure and also to prevent potential acts of vandalism and theft.
The enclosure’s perimeter fence is claimed to be the largest tiger fence in Europe and the Park chose to integrate an electric security fence.
An approved member of our Installer Network visited the Park and installed several of our Electro-Fence™ Dual Zone Multisys Controllers to control the electric fencing in conjunction with our Multisys™ software. More about this aspect of our security technology can be found on our electric fence controllers page. Our Technical Director Andy Moon was responsible for commissioning, programming and training.
In the following video, a member of the Park staff introduces the Amur Tiger Trail. The clip starts where she goes into detail about the size and nature of the perimeter fencing.
On the Park’s website there is also a wonderful video of the tigers being moved to their new enclosure. It offers the opportunity to learn more about the care that these magnificent animals receive from their keepers.
Here at Advanced Perimeter Systems we LOVE wildlife and especially tigers! So we feel privileged to have been able to help in their protection and security. We would like to thank Knowsley Safari Park for inviting us to be involved and for providing us with photographs. Long may the animals be happy and safe.
