The Case For Sensor Cable vs Fibre Optic In Perimeter Detection
There has been much debate about which is the better of these two types of perimeter detection cable: copper sensor or fibre optic. We do not wish to add to the debate but are happy to share the truth about our experiences as a manufacturer and a supplier involved directly with engineers in the field.
Over many years we have met people around the world who have had poor experiences with fibre optic sensor cable systems and we still continue to encounter them today. The most common complaints they have about the fibre sensor option are:
- False alarms (generated by the wind or sometimes nearby movement which is not intruder generated)
- Repairs (difficult and often expensive)
- Cold conditions (prone to freezing inside cabling so the don’t work)
We remain convinced that our fence sensor technology offers far greater, long term benefits than anything fibre optics can.
