In a previous news item we discussed how an electric security fence must be reliable in extreme temperatures. We demonstrated this with a photograph of our Electro-Fence™ system operating perfectly after installation despite being heavily laden with snow! Reliability is just one of the reasons why Electro-Fence™ has become established as the perimeter protection system of choice for many high security sites.
New Electric Security Fence With Anti-Spread Detection
Today we report on a recent Electro-Fence™ installation. Key points of the project were:
- Geographical Location: Coastal UK
- Application: Military
- Requirement: Additional perimeter fencing with electric security fence technology
- Existing perimeter protection: Security fence fitted with Electro-Fence™ previously installed by APS approved installer.
Careful consideration of the location was vital to ensuring that the new installation would be done correctly. Here are some of the criteria and how we fulfilled them:
Security Fence Foundations
The sandy nature of the site (see above photo) meant that bigger foundations had to be created for the security fencing itself in order to ensure stability and strength.
Electric Fence Insulators With Water Barrier
The site is close to the sea and in a part of the world where heavy rain is a regular feature. However, we knew that these climatic conditions would pose no problem for Electro-Fence™ because our system carries self-cleaning insulators fitted with water barriers, designed and manufactured by ourselves here in Stirling.
Extra High Security Fence
The fence was of an unusual height, certainly higher than most typical electric fences. Again, this was no problem for us. There is technically no limit to the fence height where our electric fence technology can be installed. Electro-Fence™ currently operates on 5 metre (16.5ft) high fences at US mainland correctional facilities.
Fence Anti-Spread Detection
The project also called for the installation of a detector that would generate an alarm if the electric fence wires were moved apart in an attempt to gain entrance. We designed and manufactured the galvanized steel anti-spread detector as shown in the photograph below. So if any wire on the electric fence is moved, it will short out and the required alarm will be generated. This type of anti-spread detection is ideal for installation on fences at top security sites such as military bases, nuclear sites and power generation facilities.
