Frequently Asked Questions About Perimeter Security

1. What type of fence can be protected?

Most types of metal fence, chainlink, weldmesh, palisade expamet.

2. What is the maximum zone length?

300m. This includes any feeder cable.

3. What height of fence can be protected with one sensor cable?

One sensor cable can protect a fence up to a height of 3m.

4. Can a fence higher than 3m be protected?

Yes. Use two sensor cables, one near the bottom of the fence and one near the top.

5. What are the power requirements for the analyser?

The analysers work with a voltage range of 15-21V DC at 25mA.

6. Can the sensor cable be joined if cut?

Yes. Use the FS-420 joint box to repair the cable.

7. Can any joint box be used to repair the cable?

No. You can only use the FS-420 joint box as this is a special box with an internal graphite coating and conductive gasket used for screening.

8. I need to protect gates in the fence. How can this be done?

Gates can be protected by fixing the sensor cable to the gates using FS-460/461 gate loops.

9. What type of cable do I use to connect the analysers to the control unit?

Use twisted pair telephone cable.

10. What about operating in extreme temperatures?

Our security systsems can still operate efficiently in unusually cold or high temperatures.
To combat cold temperatures we can make a special adaptation whereby electric heaters are fitted into the enclosures.
To combat high temperatures coolers and sun shields can be fitted. A good example of this is one of our installations of perimeter security in Iran where Peltier coolers were fitted.

FAQs- ELECTRO-FENCE

1. What voltage is on the fence?

There is a maximum voltage of 10kv. This is pulsed once per second.

2. Is it safe?

Yes. The Electro-fence is manufactured and installed in accordance with the British and European standards.

3. Can I put Electro-fence on top of a wall.

Yes you can, provided it is at least 1.8m from the ground.

4. What height is the Electro-Fence?

The electro-fence should be behind a fence of at least 1.8m high and extend 600mm above it to stop climb over.

5. Is it expensive to run?

No. Each controller uses less than 20 watts of power i.e. one-third of a 60w light bulb.

6. Can I install it myself?

Electrified fences can only be installed by trained and accredited installation companies.

7. What happens when it rains?

All the insulators have water barriers so rain does not effect the system.

8. Can I have my trees and shrubs close to the fence?

There should be at least 1m clearance from any object to the fence.
