 All museums are at risk because of their very nature – offering the general public the opportunity to appreciate great works of art. There could not be a more natural target for theft.
Whatever is on exhibit - paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, inventions, scientific developments, natural history exhibits, etc – security is a crucial issue for the museum administrators. So effective perimeter alarms and security sensors play an important role for these institutions.
The Burrell Collection Glasgow
Sir William Burrell gifted over 9,000 works of art to Glasgow and we are privileged to see our Flexiguard™ Warehouse system in use to protect the display cabinets and paintings in the Collection.
Prior to the installation of our security system, there had been a remarkable and disturbing incident in the museum. One day someone walked out of the museum with a painting rolled up under their arm. Staff thought it was a reproduction such as was on sale from the museum shop. However, it was not, it was the real thing.
Our first step when we became involved was to come up with a system to protect the original paintings – using a combination of a false wall rigged with a sophisticated sensor cable system, we provided a security system that could detect anyone touching a painting and so raise an alarm BUT one that would not react to people just walking past. We also set up the protection of a number of glass display cabinets using our sensor cable system, with each cabinet interconnected so they could be moved to different places in the museum. |
