Fort George, Scotland

Fort George near Nairn in Scotland was built between 1748 and 1769 as a fortress against potential threats from the Jacobites. The Battle of Culloden (battlefield site is in the nearby vicinity) and the uprising of 1745 had been the catalysts behind the Fort's conception and it is said to be one of the strongest fortresses ever built within the United Kingdom. As such, it is an site of important historical significance and attracts many visitors every year. fort security

Walled off to one side of the fortress is The Grand Magazine – a building which originally acted as the main powder store for the fort and today houses the Seafield Collection of Arms which includes muskets dating from the Napoleonic wars, including India Pattern muskets with bayonets from 1794.
The problem was that visitors were stealing the bayonets and ram rods from the Collection and an urgent solution was needed to this security problem. Advanced Perimeter Systems Limited came up with a custom solution: a line of Flexiguard sensors through the trigger guards, connected to a fence analyser to detect tampering with the muskets along with a barrier made of gunpowder barrels in front of the muskets. The cable was also threaded around the barrels to detect visitors climbing over them to get to the muskets.
